Adoption Time Line
We’ve always considered adoption as a means to grow our family, but never really did anything about it. But one day, around Christmas 2007, Joanna said to us, "I think this would be a good thing to do. Could you seriously look into this? And don’t blow me off!" So we did. For three months. We concluded that an international adoption made more sense for us that a domestic one. And we thought we would go through the China Special Needs program. So in March 2008 we picked the agencies we wanted to use and started filling out paperwork.
- June 24 - Home Study complete.
- We now look at children on web site and request more information on two of them. And pray. And pick the one we think the Lord would like us to raise.
- July 14 - "Letter of Intent" to adopt Xioa Ying was sent to China
- July 22 - "Preliminary Approval" received from China
- August 27 - Documents sent to Chinese Consulate in NYC
- September 5 - Documents received from China Consulate in NYC
- September 8 - Documents sent to FTIA for them to review and forward to China
- September 22 - Our documents are "Logged In", that is, China acknowledged receipt of our submission.
At this point, we will wait 2-4 months for a "final approval" and then a few more weeks until "travel approval" and then a few more weeks until we go to China and bring Xiao Ying home!
