Ruby’s Birthday
Today is Ruby’s 11th birthday. Birthdays, for the most part, are not big deals in China. That is especially so for an orphan. Last year, Ruby’s birthday fell just days before we were to fly to China to get her. She’s waited this whole year - watching everybody else have a birthday! And she was READY! She’s been talking about it since Christmas! For her - this is really like a first birthday - the first birthday with a real celebration!

With her friends at churchRuby was up early and had her favorite breakfast of chicken noodle soupRuby with her friend Kristyn at Stir Crazy Restaurant

Ready to play basketballRuby's had an interest in basektball since she arrived. So - when the eighteen inches of snow in our backyard melts a bit - she and Daddy can set the hoop up! With Grandma and Grandpa Kizzee

With our friend Aunt LindaBeautiful girl with a not so beatiful cakeOkay - I had to suck up some pride to even display this picture - but - I dub this cake the "California Mudslide." German Chocolate cake (from scratch) is the Kizzee family favorite cake. Soon after Ruby's arrival, she tasted the one my mom made me and loved it. So, she requested one for both her half birthday and now for her birthday. I'm not quite sure what went wrong with this one, but the cake layers fell apart coming out of the pan. I tried to even it out by making more icing. But the icing only weighed it down and caused the mudslide. But - it tastes WONDERFUL! Why wouldn't it? It has a pound of butter in it!Grace got Ruby Snow White in Cantonese
