Dat one, one dollar
Sunday, June 21st, 2009I’m writing while on the road to Florida for our denomination’s General Assembly. Normally about ten thousand Nazarenes gather to discuss policy, vote on leaders, and basically participate in a giant family reunion. I say “normally” because there is a lot of talk that the cost of going to Florida is keeping lots of people away - we’ll see. Mike and I will be in lots of meetings over the next two weeks.
We’ve spent the last few days traveling - I can’t wait to get home and post pictures. BUT - today I wanted to write about a recent episode with Ruby. Shortly after coming home, she lost a tooth. She was pleased to learn about receiving one dollar the next morning. Recently, she had two loose teeth. As she pointed to them, she said, “Dat one, one dollar,” and then the next, “Dat one, one dollar!” And, sure enough, in the next few days, one came out and she got her dollar. (Ruby does not catch on to the word for money, but uses the word “dollar.”) The very next night, she came out of her bedroom with blood running down her arms. Seems she had decided she wanted another dollar and had pulled a tooth out before it was quite ready! At this point, Mike decided we need to give her an allowance or SOMETHING so that she does not have to pull teeth out to get dollars!
